A three sport athlete back in college, head track and field coach Stuart “Stu” Parks had much experience before he took over the Panther harriers. Prior to his time at Adelphi, Parks coached at Trinity College for seven years while also spending a year as Government Advisor on Physical Education and an Olympic Games coach.

Parks began coaching in 1954. His training methods were successful with his runners as they set school records and fared well with their small sized team. Along with being the head coach, he was also an Associate Professor of Physical Education when he arrived. 1968 marked the end of his coaching career, but his teaching profession continued. His retirement finally came after 25 years of service to Adelphi in 1979.
Parks is one of the founders of the Athletic Hall of Fame as he was an integral part of its beginnings by sitting on the selection committee as well as being organizer of the dinner for numerous years. A well-liked and respected faculty member, in 1969 he was elected by the student body into Flambeau, which was the Senior men’s Honorary Society.
