During his four-year career, the Dublin Ireland native helped the Panthers to three NCAA Tournament berths.Â
During his freshman campaign, he was part of the team that still holds the longest win streak in Adelphi soccer history with nine straight. The #11 ranked Panthers advanced to the NCAA quarterfinals. Caffrey served as team captain his junior and senior years. As a senior, he finished the season ranked third on the team in scoring and first in assists. He was selected as a National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) third-team All-American and an All-New York Regional honoree. He was also voted the Adelphi Male Athlete of the Year and team MVP.
He finished his career with 20 assists, 10 in his senior year. Caffrey obtained a BBA in management in 1991. He also holds a MBA in business (1994) and a MA in physical education (1999).
After graduation, he moved on to play professionally for the Long Island Riders, later serving as an assistant coach for the team. He played in the UEFA Cup three times, Europe’s second most prestigious tournament. Caffrey went on to coach at Suffolk Community College, Selden from 2002-06. During his tenure, he led SCC to two straight NJCAA Division III Region Championships, Northeast District Championships and consecutive trips to the National Championships in 2003 and 2004.
He was twice named national junior college Region XV Coach of the Year as well as the NSCAA Northeast Coach of the Year. In 2007, he was named an assistant coach for the United States Under-17 men’s national soccer team.
