David Takach is a 1986 graduate of Adelphi University, a three-year member of the baseball team, his name appears in nearly every major pitching category in the panther record books. A left-handed pitcher, Takach came to Garden City after earning All-County, All-League and Most Valuable Player honors in Hauppauge High School, for which he was recently inducted into the school's Hall of Fame.

He had an immediate impact on the Adelphi program, helping the Panthers to a 24-12 record his first season and a 76-31-2 mark over his three years. Takach had his best season on the mound in 1984, setting all-time single season marks in innings pitched (94.1), complete games (10) and strikeouts (94). He also posted the third most wins with 10 and the sixth lowest earned run average (ERA) with a 1.72. Adelphi also had a strong season as a team, posting a record of 31-6-1 in 1984.

Over the course of his career, Takach earned American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) All-Region and All-America honors as well as All-Knickerbocker accolades. He also helped the Panthers pitching staff to an NCAA category championship in 1984, as Adelphi posted the fewest team ERA in Division II, 2.144. That year, he ecliopsed the single season victories record of 7 set by Joe Sambito and finished with 10 wins, a record he held for over 10 years. His name also dots the career record book, as Takach is first in complete games (21), second in shut outs (four), strikouts (205) and ERA (2.16). He is also currently third in both single season (10) wins and career wins with a total of 21 and seventh in innings pitched, throwing 2121.2 innings.

After earning a bachelor of science with high honors, Takach was drafted by the New York Mets in June 1984 and enjoyed a career with the Mets organization from 1984-1989. He also spent time with the St. Louis Cardinals, the Pittsburg Pirates and the Chicago White Sox.
