Hubert Blue enrolled at Adelphi in the fall of 1979 and was a member of the track and field team under head coach Otto Van Exel for four years. During his tenure, he earned All-America status in the sprints and relays an impressive eight times.

In just his first year, Blue was a member of the 400 yard relay team with teammates Arnold Sobers, Ronald Clarke, and Clifton Shultz which placed third at the NCAA Outdoor Championships to garner his first All-American accolade. That year, Adelphi went on to finish in sixth place as a team, matching the 1971 team for the highest ever finish in Adelphi track history.

The following year, the quartet improved one spot to take second while Blue earned an eighth place finish individually in the 200m dash.

In 1981, Blue, along with Gordon Lewis, Mike Pooler and Gordon Hinds, were crowned one mile relay champions at the famed Millrose Games in Madison Square Garden. Later on that year, at the NCAA Outdoor Championships, he etched his name in the history books of Division II Track and Field as well as Adelphi when he became the program’s sixth ever individual champion, narrowly nipping Darrell Green of Texas A&I, 20.90 to 20.92 to be crowned 200m dash champion. He would add another All-America honor when he helped the 440 yard relay team one again finish in third.

1982 capped his extraordinary career, highlighted by three more All-American nods and strong showings at the PENN Relays. At the Relays, Blue was a member of each of the three entered relays, (4x100, 4x200 and 4x400) and, competing against mostly Division I competition in the Championship of America section, placed third in all of them. He placed third in the 200m dash and aided the 400m and 1600m relays each to third place finishes, pushing Adelphi to 40 team points, good enough for a 13th place finish.

Blue graduated in the spring of 1982 with a degree in physical education. As a student, he was in the Phi Beta Sigma fraternity, Nu Lambda Chapter President.

He is married to his wife, Diane, and they have five kids, Darnell, Shianne, Lucrie, Elisha and Neil.
