Ross was primarily a 440 and 880-yard runner and earned All-American honors as a member of the 4x400 meter relay team. As a sophomore in 1972, at the CYO Championships, Ross became part of history by setting a new world record for the indoor mile relay. Eight days later, in Philadelphia, he ran the second leg in 47.9, helping the Panthers to a second world record. He is also the Metropolitan AAU Champion and the Collegiate Track Conference Champion at 600 yards and a member of the school-record setting two mile relay team.
