Hall of Fame
Bill Irwin coached men’s and women’s swimming at Adelphi from 1966-1978. Over the course of his twelve years at the helm of the program, Bill also served simultaneously as Sports Information Director. Coach Irwin mentored three NCAA All-Americans: Hall of Fame inductees Len Galluzzi, Rick Guy and Tom Liotti, two of whom (Galluzzi and Liotti) qualified for the 1968 Olympic Trials. Bill was instrumental in the formation of a women’ swim team, which had its first national qualifier for the AIAW Intercollegiate National Championships in 1970, 2006 Hall of Fame inductee, Sue Tendy.
