June was a very accomplished Adelphi University track athlete from 1979-1983 winning numerous events.   In 1979, June ran in the Pan American Games earning a silver medal in the quarter mile and qualified for the 1980 Olympic Games in Moscow. She did not participate in the Olympic Games as her nation of Guyana boycotted the games.
 
On February 9, 1979, Griffith set the world indoor record in the 440 yard run race at the Millrose Games held at Madison Square Garden as she repeated her victory at the1980 Millrose Games.  She earned her bachelor’s degree in 1981 and was awarded her M.B.A. in 1984.
