Mallis joined the team as a sophomore during the 1962 season playing in all 26 games, leading the team in scoring with 482 points and helping Adelphi to a 15-11 record. That year, he helped lead the Panthers to the NCAA College Division basketball tournament, and again in 1963-64. Mallis was a three-time all-conference selection and an All-Met Team choice twice.
In his three-year varsity career at Adelphi, Mallis scored 1,324 points, becoming the sixth Panther to eclipse the 1,000 point mark up until that time. For his career, he averaged 18.6 ppg and graduated as the second leading scorer in Adelphi history (he now stands at #14). His name still appears in both the single season and career record books for Adelphi in such categories as field goal attempts, three-point field goal percentage, blocks with 85 and free throw percentage. Under career statistics, he is second in free throw percentage with .835 and he is also third in scoring.
