With the help of Gentile’s scoring ability, the Adelphi University women’s soccer team established itself in the late 1980’s and early 1990’s as one of the top Division II programs in the country.

During her four year career, Gentile set several university scoring records.  In 1989, she set a then school record by scoring 13 goals in a season in helping Adelphi to its first ever NCAA championship bid.  She finished her career as Adelphi’s all-time leader with 49 goals, a mark that still ranks her third overall.

Gentile earned first-team all-America honors in 1990 and was a four-time NSCAA All-Northeast Region selection.  She was also named to the Adidas Scholar-Athlete All-America team and was a four-time winner of the Adelph’s Athlete of the Year award and a recipient of the Arvilla E. Nolan Award.

During her career the Panthers made three NCAA appearances.  During her senior season, she was also a member of the Adelphi Division I softball team.
