Vogts transferred to Adelphi University in 1949 after starting his collegiate career at Emporia State College in Kansas. At Adelphi, he played football for three years and was also a two-year member of the basketball team. He graduated in 1952 with a B.A. in Health and Physical Education. In November of 2000 he became the winningest coach in New York State High School Football coaching at Bethpage High School.
