DeClerk was part of Adelphi’s first ever basketball team in 1946-47. In addition to being a strong scorer and the consummate team player he is also credited as the first player in Adelphi history to shoot the ball one-handed.
During the team’s first season, he played in all 17 games, compiled 206 points and helped his team to an 8-9 record. His junior year he improved, scoring 217 points, and playing in all 24 games. He ended his three-year career with 591 total points and a 9.2 points per game career average.
