Richard Grismer, a high school All-American from Kellenberg High School, attended Adelphi University from 1994-1998 and lettered for four years on the men's lacrosse team as goalkeeper. During his time at Adelphi, the three-time All-American led the Panthers to three consecutive NCAA appearances and a National Championship in 1995.

After playing eight games as a freshman, Grismer earned a starting spot in goal for the Panthers as a sophomore. That year, he guided Adelphi to a NCAA Division II title and made 15 saves in the championship game. He finished the season with a 10-3 record and set a school record for single season saves (283). He was named a Second Team All-American for his efforts.

Named a team captain as a junior, Grismer again earned Second Team All-America honors in 1996 and took the Panthers back to the NCAA Tournament. In his senior campaign, Grismer earned the Esign C. Markland Kelly Award as top goaltender in the nation to go along with First Team USILA All-American honors. He served as captain for the second consecutive year and led Adelphi to its third straight National Championship appearance. He also earned All-NYCAC First Team honors, as the Panthers were league champions.

Grismer finished his career as the Panthers' all-time saves leader with 833, having broken a 20-year old record of 789 set by Bob Ricciardi (1973-76). Both his single-season record and career record were tops in the Adelphi record books at the time of his induction. He graduated in 1997 with a B.S. in Physical Education and remained on as a graduate assistant coach in 1998, in which he saw Adelphi win its fifth NCAA Division II Championship.
