Snelders was also a founding member of the Adelphi basketball program.  A member of the basketball and football teams, Snelders led the team in scoring in 1947-48, averaging 11.9 points per game. At the time he held the school record for points in a season with 286 and helped the team to a record of 39-50 in his four years on the team..
