Gary Reh was born in Port Jefferson, New York, attended Rocky Point High School and began playing varsity lacrosse in eighth grade. During his time as a prep, he earned First All-County honors three times, guided his team to County Championships and was Suffolk County’s leading goal scorer during his junior and senior years. Upon graduating, he was honored with First-Team All-American status and followed his two older brothers, Scott and Jeff, to Adelphi.

The start of Reh’s four-year career began in the spring of 1992 as a freshman, where he helped the Panthers to a 6-6 record in their final season at the Division I level. In 1993, he helped establish national supremacy in Division II right from the start by winning the NCAA Championship over C.W. Post, 11-7. In that game, he scored four goals and dished out two assists to lead the team, and also led Adelphi in scoring on the season with 41 total goals. In the same year, he was named First-Team All-American and dubbed the NCAA Player of the Year.

Despite a rebuilding year in 1994, Reh continued to shine with another First-Team All-America nod, the only Panther to earn such an award that season. He also led the Brown and Gold in goals and assists with 24 and 21, respectively.

Capping his career at Adelphi, Reh went out on a high note and helped his team capture their second NCAA Championship in three years with a 12-10 win over Springfield, spoiling the latter’s attempt at a perfect season. In that game, Reh netted three goals, pushing his scoring total to 45 on the season to lead the team. Additionally, he led the Panthers in assists with 21. Reh was again honored with NCAA Player of the Year accolades and his third First-Team All-American honors.

Reh left his mark in the history books, holding four top-10 spots in three categories. At the time of his induction, he ranked fifth and ninth in single-season goals with 45 and 41, respectively. He also ranked eighth in career points with 162 and fifth in career goals with 110.

After graduating in 1994 with a degree in physical education, Reh began teaching and coaching at Ward Melville before making the move to Wantagh High School where he currently works. He has been the head coach there since 2005 and led the Warriors to their first County Championship. In 2010, he was named the Alan Lowe Nassau County Coach of the Year.

Reh is married to his wife, Geraldine, a former volleyball and basketball player at Adelphi. Together, they have three daughters: Mackenzie, Riley and Delaney.
