Monmouth, N.J. - After ending the indoor portion of the 2016 scheduled just two short weeks ago, the Adelphi University track and field program was back to competition this past weekend by opening the outdoor season at the Monmouth Season Opener.
The individual who represented the Panthers at the NCAA Championships two weeks kicked off the new season as
Angela Mongitore notched a first place finish during the 400 meter. The senior posted a time of 56.01 to win the event. Meanwhile,
Mary Camarano fell short of a victory by taking second place during the 400 meter hurdles behind a time of 1:03.49.
Posting two top-six finishes was
Idongesit Ekong during the 100 meter and 200 meter dashes. She claimed sixth during the shorter distance at a time of 13.19 during heat two followed by a 26.78 time in the longer race.
Ena Otaka registered fourth during the 100 meter with a 13.13 time while
Aleisha Jeffers was eighth in both races with respective times of 13.25 and 27.20.
In the field,
Emily Hagarty secured a high jump of 1.55 meters to take fifth place while
Myrika Harding finished with a discuss throw of 28.95 meters for eighth. Back on the track,
Cecelia Capozzoli logged a time of 19:18.07 in the 5,000 meter for seventh place.
On the men's side,
Sean Grady led all finishers with a second place time of 1:54.47 in the 800 meter.
William Marois was fourth in the same race, clocking in at 1:57.20.
Luke Pascale and
Kenneth Coleman both finished within the top-eight in the 400 meter hurdles with Pascale taking fifth at a time of 55.47 while Coleman ran a 57.00 for eighth. Also putting forth a fifth place showing was
Matthew Moody in the 3,000 meter steeplechase, finishing in 9:37.39. Meanwhile,
Jose Velasquez tabbed eighth in the 5,000 meter behind a 15:48.63 time.
Taking part in both sides of the day,
Austin Drescher put forth a seventh place finish on the track with a 11.54 time in the 100 meter before a fifth place long jump of 6.35 meters.
Patrick Sheehan also earned fifth place during a field event by landing a discuss throw of 43.77 meters.
Back in action this weekend with another two-day event, th Panthers are set to travel to Mahwah, N.J. for the Ramapo College Invite on Friday and Saturday.
