Records Rewritten at Rick McCorkle Invitational

Ewing, NJ - For the final team meet ahead of the Northeast 10 Conference Championship, another trio of records have new marks following the Adelphi University track and field team's participation at the Rick McCorkle Invitational on Friday.

The scheduled two-day meet was condensed into a single day, and the hammer throw event was canceled altogether.

Women's Highlights:
  • Imani Mudiay continued her streak in the triple jump, landing an attempt at 11.31m, for .10 farther than her last record. This placed her third overall in the field and is currently an NE10 best heading into the championship meet next week.
  • Gabrielle Stafford was responsible for a new PR and Adelphi record in the javelin, throwing 41.69m to win the event outright. Her distance is top-three in the conference behind a pair of throwers from Saint Anselm. Stafford also placed seventh in the high jump by clearing 1.53 on her first attempt.
  • Madeline Staley took the discus record from now Assistant coach Kyria Moore last week and handed it over to Lori Melville following a 38.80m mark which saw her finish third overall. Now, Melville and Staley sit in the 3-4 spots in the NE10, one-week out from the outdoor championship meet.
  • Rookie Angelina Arriaga and Brooke Bowen placed inside the top-10 in the 100 meter race, with the former using a sub-13 second finish for a new personal-best. Arriaga also ran the 200, and clocked in at 26.44 for another PR and an 11th place showing.
  • Maya Suarez moved into the top-15 for the league in the 1500, following a personal-best race of 5:04.30 and Isabella Baloun now appears 10th in the NE10 for her 1:10.35 400 hurdles finish.
Men's Highlights:
  • Evan Weber and Patrick Conley both raced in the 100 and 200 meter events, as Weber took home fourth in both and Conley put up a new personal best in the 100.
  • The 800 field was stacked with Panthers as Maxwell Krapf led the way in a time of 1:56.43, which moves him into 11th among league competition.
  • Deven Bernardin and Jake Orfano represented the Cats in the seeded 1500 meter run, ultimately finishing 11th (4:01.15) and 15th (4:03.17), respectively, each posting a new PR. The unseeded field of 1500 meter runners was led by Chris Leonard, who clocked in at 4:05. There are now five Adelphi athletes in the top-15 for the men's 1500 in the league.
  • Jabari Holder was a top-three finisher in the triple jump and also finished 11th in the long jump alongside teammate Sergio Talamo. With a 36.72m attempt, Talamo put up a new personal best in the discus throw as he prepares to take on the decathlon at next week's championship meet.

Adelphi will take the week to prepare for the NE10 Outdoor Championship, scheduled to begin on Friday, May 1 at Southern Connecticut State University. In the preseason polls, released earlier this month, the men's team was projected to finish third (behind #1 SCSU and #2 Assumption) and the women were projected fourth.
