Pittsburg, Kan. - After claiming sixth place yesterday during the prelimiary round of the 400 meter at the NCAA Division Indoor Track and Field Championship, Adelphi University senior
Angela Mongitore brings back her second Indoor All-America honor to Garden City with eighth place in the finals race today.
The Massapequa native ran a 55.65 time during the first section of two heats at the finals race today. Yesterday, Mongitore posted the sixth fastest time of 54.67 during the preliminary races. This is the second time the senior has earned All-America honors during the indoor 400 meter race after first accomplishing the feat during the 2014 Championships. During that season, she finished eighth in the preliminaries followed by a 55.54 time during the finals for sixth place.
Carly Muscaro of Merrimack earns the championship crown for the race, running a 52.34 during the second heat. The time falls just short of the Championship Record set by Lorraine Graham from Lincoln (MO) during the 1997 season behind a 52.22 clocking.
Notes:- Mongitore is now not only a two-time Indoor All-American, however, she is also an All-American during the same race in the outdoor season - earning the honor last spring.
