New Haven, Conn. - Highlighted by a handful of first-place finishes, the Adelphi University track and field programs took to Southern Connecticut State University for the Wilton Wright Invitational on Saturday.
In addition to five wins for the team, reigning Northeast-10 Indoor Field Rookie of the Year
Lindsey Wilson set a new program mark in the triple jump - landing an attempt at 10.82m, just .02 longer than the previous record. She placed fourth overall, followed by
Imani Mudiay (sixth) and
Joanna Weber (ninth).
Amari Johnson came away with the win the 100 hurdles, clocking in at 14.55 which stands as the second best time in the East Region. Also placing first in her respective event,
Lucia Kutner topped the field in the 300 steeplechase in a time of 12:24.11. Coming in a close second was teammate
Sumaira Mayan (12:46.15), which are fourth and sixth in the region. Rookie
Maya Suarez placed fourth in her first collegiate steeple event, in a time of 13:16.93.
The women's 4x100 relay consisting of Johnson,
Valencia Beaubrun,
Claire O'Regan and
Christina Gayle took second in the specialty with a time of 49.57. This was just .36 after the top team out of Sacred Heart as the hosting Owls took a win in the 4x400.
On the men's side,
Carl Bacette posted a top-10 finish in the 100, putting up a time of 11.16 in his section. In the 800,
Diego Llanos and
Nicholas Nanan both ran a sub-two minute race, placing second and fourth overall.
Topping the field in the 110 hurdles was
Bryan Combary, whose time of 14.88 which is fourth overall in the region after this weekend of events. Also placing in the top-five was
Luke Sulli with a 16.10 time to place third, as his 1:03.07 time in the 400 hurdles for a new career-best.
The men's 4x400 relay quartet of
John Perez,
Nicholas Stiehler,
Khalil Chester and
Bryce Ridley were the best in show with a time of 3:29.12 which topped crews out of Sacred Heart, New Haven and Assumption.
The multi-athletes will compete at the UConn Northeast Challenge next weekend while the rest of the squad heads to the Bison Outdoor Classic, hosted by Bucknell. On Wednesday, April 10, members of the graduating class of 2024 will be recognized at halftime of the Adelphi women's lacrosse game against defending National Champion Pace.
