Hopkinton, N.H. - After going 1-2 at the Northeast-10 Conference Championships two weeks ago, the Marsh twins once again topped the leaderboard this weekend, this time at the NCAA Division II East Region Championships.
This time, though, the result was flipped: NE10 runner-up
Isabel Marsh completed the course three seconds ahead of her NE10 champion sister,
Katherine Marsh, to win the regional title.
Her 21:37.98 is a new school record, just bettering the 21:38.1 that
Katherine Marsh ran to win the NE10 title.
The Marsh twins' effort helped the women place fourth for the fourth straight year.
Sumaira Mayan was the Panthers' third finisher. She ran a personal-best 22:55.99 in the 6k course to finish in 22nd, also bettering the time she clocked in at the league meet.
Lucia Kutner (45th) and
Maya Suarez (48th) also recorded the fastest times of their collegiate career over the distance, clocking in at 24:12.12 and 24:15.89, respectively.
The men, meanwhile, placed eighth, finishing five spots higher than last year.
Jake Orfano topped the standings for the Adelphi men over the 10k course with a 33rd-place overall finish.
Diego Llanos also clocked in the Top 50 in 49th, in a field of more than 130 runners.
The Marshes are now in pole position to next head to Joplin, Mo. in two weeks' time to race in the NCAA Division II National Championships on a course hosted by Missouri Southern University.
