North Attleboro, Mass. - For the first time in her young career, first year Christina Sakellis of Adelphi cross country has been named the Northeast 10 Rookie of the Week, announced by the conference office on Tuesday. 

Sakellis was the top DII freshman to finish and ranked third runner for the Panthers in last week's New England College Open/Regional Preview. She placed ninth overall in a field of nearly 100, clocking in at 20:24.84 over 6K.

The cross country program begins preparing for the NE10 Championship meet, scheduled for Oct. 26 on the campus of Saint Anselm College. The women's 6K will kick off the day at 11:00 a.m. followed by the men's 8K at 12:15 p.m.
