North Dartmouth, Mass. - Several student-athletes had the chance to post PRs Saturday morning when both the men's and women's cross country teams competed at the UMass Darmouth Cross Country Invitational.
Overall, the men had a fifth-place showing in the varsity race and a fourth place finish in the sub-varsity as the women placed 21st in a field of 40 teams. For the varsity competition, the Adelphi men bested American International by six seconds, who beat them at the First Annual Panther XC Invite in early September
With an average time of 26:21, the men's varsity race was led by sophomore
Gerard Connelly who dropped 45-seconds off his personal best to finish seventh overall. The next to cross for the Panthers was
Michael Grady, in a time of 25:52.4 for 14th out of a field of 315 competitors followed by
Branden Warders who landed in the top-50 with a time of 26:41.1. Rounding out the top-five for Adelphi in the varsity race was
Jose Velasquez in 50th and
Sean Kildare, finishing just four seconds later (PR-26:52). All eight competitors in the men's varsity finished in the top-100 with additional PRs from
Nicholas Giampietro and Julian DePaz.Â
For the sub-varsity event, Adelphi placed fourth with an average 8k time of 29:18.
Steven Mosher (PR- 28:01) came in 14th followed closely by
Anthony Coccia and Aashaun Khedaru (PR- 28:23).Â
For the women, seven runners contributed to an average 5k time of 20:42 to finish 21st out of 40 teams. Crossing first and dropping 16 seconds off her personal best was
Nicole Julian in a time of 19:18.6, good for 27th in the field.
Catherine Olsen was the only other member of the Brown and Gold to find a spot in the top-100, placing 94th with a pace of 6:32.6 per mile.  Posting PRs for the women were
Shannon Auletta (21:30),
Kelli Smith (21:34)Â and
Tara Maloney (22:11).
The Brown and Gold return to race at the Paul Short Run on Friday, September 29, hosted by Lehigh University.Â
