Ramapo, N.J. - After starting the weekend at the John Thomas Terrier Invite hosted by Boston University on Friday, the Adelphi University track and field program continued competition at BU on Saturday while also sending individuals to the Ramapo Indoor Select meet.
In Ramapo,
Ena Otaka and
Idongesit Ekong both earned top-10 finishes throughout the day. Otaka first claimed second place in the 60 meter preliminaries with a 7.92 time before finishing fourth in the finals with a 7.93 finish.
Aleisha Jeffers also finished in the finals of the 60 meter with a 8.01, sixth place performance in the preliminaries before again taking sixth in the finals behind a 8.02 clocking. Meanwhile, Ekong claimed eighth in the 400 meters after a 1:02.18 finish. Ekong and Otaka both competed in the 200 meter event later on, with Otaka finishing in seventh at 26.96 before a 27.27 time from Ekong.
Highlighting the finishes for the Panthers was a first place victory in the weight throw from
Myrika Harding. The sophomore earned the victory after a throw of 14.33 meters. Back on the track for the women,
Cecelia Capozzoli and
Jennifer McNally finished in fourth and sixth respectively during the 5,000 meter race with times of 20:10.91 and 20:31.46.
Christina Dutcher competed in her first 800 meter race of the season and turned in an eighth place finish of 2:24.12.
The field portion of the day highlighted the men's peformances, including two top-10 finishes from
Kip Jackson. The senior first posted a high jump of 1.83 meters for ninth place before taking 10th in the triple jump with a leap of 12.37 meters.
Austin Drescher, meanwhile, claimed eighth in the long jump with a best jump of 6.48 meters.
Back in Boston, the men were in competition after the women's performed on Friday.
Luke Pascale posted two 28th place finishes in seperate events. In the 60m hurdles, the junior finished in 8.51 before turning in a 1:06.49 time in the 500 meter.
Anthony Seara was the first Panther to finish in the 500 meter just ahead of Pascale at 1:06.21.
Looking ahead, the Brown and Gold return to competition next weekend at the New York City Armory for the Armory Track Invitational.
Notes:- In the NE-10 standings, the women have five of the top 11 spots in the 800 meter after this weekend.
- For the men, in both the 1,000 meter and the 500 meter, Adelphi holds five of the top 13 positions in each race.
