Men's Basketball Shut Down by The Setters, 69-51

Adelphi shot just 20 percent in the first half and could not overcome a 10 point halftime deficit.

Box Score Garden City, N.Y. - The Adelphi University men's basketball team played host to Pace University in the Center for Recreation and Sports on Saturday, February 22. The Panthers were held to just 20 percent shooting in the first half, as the Setters built a 10 point halftime lead, that Adelphi could not overcome, falling 69-51. With the loss Adelphi falls to 5-20 overall, and 3-16 in Northeast-10 action, while Pace improves to 7-18 overall and 5-14 in the conference.

Duane Morgan led the Panthers with 15 points and 11 rebounds, while Anthony Libroia contributed 13 points and Ethan Hamlet chipped in 11 off the bench. Ryan DeNicola was strong on the inside with 11 rebounds, including four offensive, to go with six points.

Morgan opened the first half with a triple, 54 seconds into the action, putting Adelphi ahead, 3-0. However, that would be Adelphi's only points, until two Morgan made free throws with 7:28 to play in the frame. Pace took advantage of the Panther drought, building a 17 point lead, 20-3. The Brown and Gold would come alive in the final seven minutes, out scoring Pace 19-12, cutting the margin to just 10 at the intermission.

The Setters turned up the offensive effort in the second half, opening the period with a 12-2 run, that concluded with a Jonathan Merceus jumper at the 13:56 mark, putting the Panthers in a 20 point hold they could not dig out of, 44-24. The closest Adelphi would get the rest of the way was the final score, 69-51.

The Panthers will close out the regular season on Tuesday, February 25, when they welcome the University of New Haven to campus for the seasons final Northeast-10 clash.
