Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Men's Basketball Falls to No. 2 Seed Felician in First Round of NCAA Regional

Amherst, N.Y. – For the second season in a row, the Adelphi men's basketball team traveled to Daemen University for the NCAA East Regional. This time, slated as the No. 7 seed, the Panthers took on No. 2-seeded CACC Regular Season and Tournament Champion Felician. A furious first-half comeback got the game within three points at the half, but turnovers hurt the Panthers as Felician won, 75-53.

Series History:

  • Adelphi (18-12, 10-8 NE10) ends its season for the second year in a row in the NCAA Tournament.
  • Historically against Felician, the Panthers are now 3-1 against the Golden Falcons since 2016.
  • The last matchup was a 97-91 Adelphi win on Nov. 25, 2018, in Garden City.

Highlights:

  • Dayshaun Walton was the team's leading scorer with 19 points. The senior was 4-for-5 from the floor and shot a perfect 10-for-10 from the free-throw line.
  • Jarnel Rancy blocked three shots and grabbed a team-high 12 rebounds. He finishes the season with 104 blocks, making him the Division II leader in the statistic for the second season in a row.
  • Zakari McQueen once again provided a spark off the bench, shooting 2-for-3 from three-point land.

How It Happened:

  • Adelphi got off to a slow start, trailing by as many as nine five minutes into the game.
  • The Panthers were able to get the lead down to four after buckets from Matthew Price and Rancy, but Felician fought back.
  • The game was a see-saw affair for the next few minutes, and while the Golden Falcons continued to lead, they could not run away from Adelphi.
  • Down by 10 after the eight-minute media timeout, the Brown and Gold sprung a 9-2 run to trail by only three.
  • The back-and-forth style of play continued with Felician going back up eight before the Panthers battled back to trail by only three at the break, courtesy of some Walton free throws and a Mason Jackson layup.
  • Adelphi was able to keep the game close in the opening minutes of the second half, but turnovers and poor shooting were its undoing.
  •  Felician went up 12 with 12:18 remaining in the game, and while the Panthers battled for the remainder of the contest, they could not get the lead under double digits. The Golden Falcons went on to win, 75-53.
