Worcester, Mass. – The Adelphi men's basketball team traveled to the No. 5-seeded Assumption Greyhounds on Saturday afternoon for the opening round of the Northeast 10 Tournament. While the Panthers led by one at halftime, turnovers proved costly as they sparked Assumption's offense and led the home team to a 76-63 win.
Series History:
Highlights:
- Patrick Burke put together a nice showing, leading the team with 19 points and 10 rebounds. This was his fifth double-double of the season and second against Assumption.
- Al-Fatir Connor had a double-double as well with 10 points and 10 rebounds. The 10 boards are the most he's recorded in an Adelphi uniform.
- Matthew Price was second on the team with 13 points, shooting 5-for-9 from the floor and making three of his six three-point attempts.
- Jarnel scored eight with six boards and four blocks.
How It Happened:
- The first 10 minutes of the game were a back-and-forth, low-scoring affair. Neither team was able to gain a lead larger than four and halfway through the first half, Adelphi led 18-17.
- The lead quickly flipped sides as a 12-0 run put Assumption ahead by 11 with just over six minutes remaining in the period.
- Adelphi bounced back and ended the half on a high note. A Burke takeover along with makes from Price and Mason Jackson saw the Panthers go on a 13-2 run in the final four minutes to take a 33-32 lead into the break.
- Unfortunately for the Brown and Gold, they could not keep their momentum rolling into the second half as the lead was short-lived.
- Three straight makes from Assumption put the Greyhounds back in front with 17:49 to play and they held the lead for the remainder of the game.
- Nine turnovers in the second half were Adelphi's undoing as Assumption took advantage of the miscues and scored 22 points off them.
- A hot shooting stretch from Price cut the deficit to eight, but the Greyhounds continued to respond.
- The Panthers were forced to foul late and fell, 76-63.
