North Attleboro, Mass. — Three members of the Adelphi University men's basketball team were recognized as top players in the Northeast 10, the conference office announced on Tuesday afternoon.
For the second year in a row,
Jarnel Rancy was named the NE10 Defensive Player of the Year while also earning second-team All-Conference and All-Defensive Team honors. Leading the country in blocks (102) and blocks per game (3.78), Rancy solidified himself as one of the top defenders in the nation. On the offensive side of the ball, he showed flashes as a scorer and playmaker, averaging a career-high 6.4 points and 2.4 assists per game. His 61% field goal percentage is the third-highest mark in program history. The senior became Division II's all-time blocks leader on January 31 at Saint Anselm with his 456th career block. That number has since grown to 482, 27 more than the previous record.
Dayshaun Walton was the Panthers' First Team All-Conference selection, as the Albany native once again proved himself as one of the league's top players in his senior season. Walton was Adelphi's leading scorer, averaging 15.5 points per game, which ranked eighth in the league. He also ranked in the top 10 in the NE10 in assists per game (3.3), steals (40), three-point percentage (39.8%), and free throw percentage (81.7%). Walton etched his name in the Adelphi record books, as he is the fifth-leading scorer in program history with 1,776 points.
Mason Jackson was the Brown and Gold's final All-Conference selection, earning All-Defensive Team honors for the second time in his career. The senior was a defensive force all season for the Panthers, able to guard all five positions and often matched up against the opponent's best player. Jackson was second on the team and 10th in the conference in blocks with 18, while tallying 21 steals and grabbing 124 rebounds.
The Adelphi men's basketball team awaits its fate for the NCAA Tournament. Hoping for its second selection in as many years, the NCAA Selection Show will air on Sunday, March 8 at 11 p.m. on
