Box Score
Garden City, N.Y. – The men's basketball team hosted the Skyhawks of Stonehill College in a Northeast-10 Conference contest earlier this evening at the Center of Recreation and Sport. The Panthers picked up a 68-57 victory, putting three players in double figures and shooting 55 percent from the field on the night. With the win, the Panthers move to 4-9, 2-5 NE-10 while the Skyhawks slip to 3-9, 1-7 NE-10.
Anthony Libroia led three Panthers in double figures with a game-high 22 points, with 16 points coming after intermission. He also chipped in four rebounds and three assists, while
Duane Morgan had 19 points, seven rebounds and five blocks and
Boris Fodouop posted a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds.
Stonehill's Carter Smith knocked down a triple on their first possession of the game to open up the scoring and give his team the early advantage. However, it would be the only time they would be out in front for the remainder of the half as two free throws by
Duane Morgan and a buck from
Ryan DeNicola gave the Brown and Gold the 4-3 lead.
Adelphi scored five unanswered points in less than a two minute span on the efforts of DeNicola, Morgan and Fodouop to expand their lead to eight points at 15-9; the largest of the half. Stonehill stayed within reach and tied it at 24 a piece after Adam Bramanti connected on the lay in. After nearly two and a half minutes of scoreless action, two made attempts from the charity stripe by Morgan and a layup by Libroia sent the Panthers into halftime up by four, 28-24.
The Skyhawks made an early push in the second half, tying the game twice in the first five minutes of play, with the second tie coming at the 15:11 mark on a Josh Heyliger lay-up that made the count 36 all. However, a Libroia triple sparked a 12-2 Adelphi run that was capped by a
Greg Davis lay-up to put the Brown and Gold in front, 48-38 with 12:35 left in the contest.
Stonehill would cut the Adelphi lead to single digits twice, getting to within nine with 8:23 on the clock, but a Fodouop jumper pushed the margin back to 11, 53-42 and the visitors never got closer than 10 the rest of the way, as the Panthers picked up a 68-57 win.
