Box Score
Garden City, N.Y. – The Adelphi University men's basketball team played host to the Penmen of Southern New Hampshire in the Center for Recreation and Sports earlier this evening. Despite being even with the visitors at the half, SNHU managed to outscored Adelphi in the second, resulting in a 60-50 victory for the Penmen. With the loss, the Panthers drop to 4-13 overall and 2-9 in the NE-10 while the Penmen improve to 8-5 in the league and 10-6 overall.
Adelphi was led by
Anthony Libroia who tallied 19 points and nine rebounds.
Boris Fodouop tallied nine points of his own and led the squad with 13 rebounds. The Penmen had three players in double figures, as Chris Waters, Rodney Sanders and Mike Stys tallied 14, 12 and 10 points, respectively.
The Brown and Gold fell behind 7-2 in the early going, but rallied to tie the score at 7-7 when
Edward Sullivan sunk two from the charity stripe. The half featured two more ties until the Panthers opened up a five point lead, 20-15, their largest of the half with 4:04 remaining. The Brown and Gold continued to lead for the duration of the opening act until Stys hit a triple at the buzzer to tie the score at 21-21 heading into halftime.
In the second, six straight points by the Brown and Gold over the first four minutes saw them take a 27-23 lead. However, the Penmen would turn the tables as another three from Stys and five points from Nikola Canic turned a 31-29 deficit into a 37-31 advantage.
The Penmen restored their six point advantage at 41-35 behind three consecutive free throws from Chris Waters. Although Libroia responded with two points of his own, Southern New Hampshire pushed their cushion to eight following a layup from Elijah Bonsignore and a Waters dunk over the Adelphi defense with 5:35 remaining.
The visitors upped their advantage to 10 with exactly five minutes remaining, and led by 11 at the 3:22 mark. A trey from Libroia and a layup from
Greg Davis pulled the Brown and Gold to within six at 49-43, with 2:27 remaining but a layup and a pair of free throws from Stys silenced the Adelphi comeback and restored the visitors' 10-point lead with just over a minute to play. It was a lead the Panthers were unable to overcome, as they were handed their fourth consecutive loss.
