Manchester, NH - The Adelphi University men's basketball team traveled north to compete in a Northeast-10 Conference contest against Saint Anselm College Saturday afternoon. Despite a team-high 19 points by
Duane Morgan, the Panthers fell to the Hawks by a final decision of 90-72. The loss drops Adelphi to 4-10 overall, 6-2 in the NE-10 as St. A's posts a 10-4 record, 8-2 in conference play.
A trio of players found themselves in double figures with Morgan leading the way with 19 points along with three blocks, three steals and a pair of assists. Sophomores
Ryan DeNicola and
Anthony Libroia chipped in 15 points apiece as Morgan and DeNicola combined for 25 of 35 rebounds in the loss.
Saint Anselm's John Nielson led all players with 21 points, as he shot five for 10 from beyond the arc. Chris Santo and Mike McCahey had 18 and 17 points, respectively and combined for 16 of 39 rebounds.
Adelphi jumped out to a 6-2 lead as Morgan pounded a dunk at 18:17, but was quickly followed by a McCahey three-pointer to bring the Hawks within one, 6-5. Three consecutive triples would spark a 18-4 run in favor of the Blue and White, who would jump ahead to lead 20-10. Libroia answered with a 3-pointer before DeNicola followed with a layup that made it a five-point game just over a minute later.
With 6:31 to go, the Hawks managed to lead 37-24. Buckets from Morgan and Libroia trimmed the deficit to nine less than two minutes later and Adelphi would eventually go into the break trailing, 45-35.
Boris Fodouop would be the first to strike for the Panther offense coming out of the locker room. A 14-6 run by the Hawks would increase their lead to 19, 62-43, ending with a DeNicola lay-in with 14:20 remaining in the half.
St. A's leading scorer Nielson contributed 11 points in the second half alone, going three for five from beyond the arc. The Hawks stretched their lead to a game-high 25 points, with a final decision of 90-72.
