Box Score
West Haven, CT – The men's basketball team was defeated by the Chargers of New Haven in a Northeast-10 Conference matchup earlier this afternoon by a score of 83-55. Despite hot shooting from behind the arc, the Panthers were unable to overcome an early ten point deficit and ultimately suffered their fifth loss. In defeat, the Brown and Gold slip to 1-5, 1-4 NE-10 while New Haven advances to 5-2, 3-1 NE-10.
Anthony Libroia led the way for the Panthers with a game high 20 points on 8-16 shooting from the field which included a 4-7 performance from three-point land. Eight of
Duane Morgan's 14 points came from the charity stripe while freshman
Damon Coleman chipped in with eight points and three assists. The team managed to shoot 54.5 percent from behind the arc, sinking six of their eleven attempts.
Held scoreless through the first 8:58 of the game, the Panthers struggled from the get-go and missed their first nine shots before Libroia finally broke the silence with a jumper. The early double-digit deficit proved enough to keep Adelphi at a distance as the six point gap at the 10:31 mark would be the closest the game would get.
An 11-0 Charger run increased the buffer to 20 with 5:35 left in the opening act. Coleman bookmarked a strong 9-2 run to close to the half that included contributions from
Ryan DeNicola, Libroia to make it a 16 point game at the intermission, 38-22.
In similar fashion, the second half began much like the first. Adelphi missed their first 10 attempts from the field and fell victim to an opening 8-1run, putting them into a 25 point hole. Libroia once again stopped the bleeding with a triple; his second of the game. He and Morgan combined for 23 of the team's 33 second half points, but it was not enough as the deficit ballooned to as much as 30 points. Unable to find the spark to mount a comeback, the Panthers headed back to Garden City with an 83-55 loss.
