Easton, MA – Earlier this evening, the men's basketball team took on the Skyhawks of Stonehill College in a Northeast-10 Conference contest. The Panther's struggles started early on and were cold from the field, falling behind by 16 points at the half. Unable to crawl back into within striking distance, the hosts extended their lead to as much as 23 and drop Adelphi back to .500 by way of a 74-54 score. With the loss, the Panther slip to 10-10 overall, 7-7 in NE-10 play while Stonehill advances to 9-9, 5-9 NE-10.

John Calarco posted 14 points on an efficient 5-10 shooting from the floor including a 2-3 performance from behind the arc. Cliff Brown was the only other Panther in double digit scoring with 10 points. Freshman Anthony Libroia notched nine points while Duane Morgan chipped in with eight points.

Stonehill's Adam Fazini posted a game high 21 points on 9-10 shooting from the field. Jack Cole followed Fazini in double digits with 13 points on a perfect 6-6 performance from the floor. Six other Skyhawks scored at least five points with Sam Markle and Raheem-May Thompson added eight a piece.

Stonehill's Cole sunk the first basket of the game on the opening possession, giving his team the lead in which they would not relinquish throughout the rest of the contest. Adelphi pulled to within two points on four occasions early on, but the Skyhawk's hot shooting from the field (.654) put the guests in a seven point hole near the midway mark of the half.

The Brown and Gold fell victim to a 15-5 run over the last 7:08 of the opening act that was sparked by a Brian Hamor layup and capped with back to back triples by Fazini and Carter Smith. At the half, Adelphi found themselves down by 16 points.

In the second, the Panther's struggles continued and were haunted by a 33 percent performance from the field. Down by nine at the 17:17 mark, Adelphi went cold, sinking just 3-14 from the field while succumbing to a 21 point deficit with 11:10 showing on the clock. Calarco, Simpson and Ryan DeNicola were the only three to make a basket during the deficit.

A triple by Librioa began an 8-0 run within the final five minutes of the game to bring his team to within 15, but it's as close as they would get. Stonehill held off the late charge and pulled away once again to grow the point differential to 20 which is how the contest would end.

The Panthers are back in action on Saturday, February 2 when they host the Hawks of St. Anselm College at the Center for Recreation and Sport. Tipoff is slated for a 3:30pm start.
