Men's and Women's Cross Country Pick Up Wins at Brick Stone Invitational

The women swept the first five spots in the Division II and III race.

Bethpage, N.Y. – The men's and women's cross country teams kicked off their 2012 campaign earlier this morning at Bethpage State Park at Hofstra's annual Brick Stone Run. Both squads emerged victoriously over the 5k course with the men topping the field of seven teams while the women swept spots one through five for a perfect score of 15.
 
For the men, in the Division II and III race, the duo of sophomore James Panetta and junior David DeSalvo delivered a one-two punch with times of 16:06 and 16:06 respectively and outrunning third place finisher Christian Altamura by six seconds.
 
Freshman William Marois and junior Connor Dolan placed fifth and sixth in times of 16:43 and 16:47 respectively while sophomore Gregory Bader rounded out the scoring five, dipping under the 17 minute mark by two seconds and finishing in eighth.
 
Brendan Abrams and Chris Reilly capped the top-7 with 10th and 12th place finishes to give the Panthers a total team score of 22. LIU Post placed second with 53 points while Molloy was third with 70 points. Queens College, Suffolk Community, Pace University and Farmingdale rounded out the bottom four teams.

This marks the fourth time in five years they have won the meet (2012, 2010, 2009, 2008)
 
On the women's side of things, Elizabeth Eickelberg paced four of her teammates to an unmatched one through five finish for a perfect score of 15. She registered a time of 19:19 while sophomores Jennifer McNally and Larissa Melendez placed second and third within two seconds of each other; 19:37 and 19:39 respectively. Senior Jacqueline Kaste placed fourth in 19:47 while freshman Kristina Coiro earned fifth and just missed out on breaking 20 minutes by six seconds.
 
Katie Hundertmark and Lindsey McLaughlin rounded out the top-seven in 10th and 13th, posting times of 20:54 and 21:10.
 
LIU Post tallied 66 points for second while Molloy was third with 79. Pace, Queens, Suffolk and Farmingdale all followed suit.

The Panthers return to action on Saturday, September 15 when they will split the team to two meets. The travel squad will make a trip up to Nashua, NH to compete at the Riverhawk Invitational which is the site of the NCAA East Regional, while the rest of the runners will compete at the LIU Post Invitational in Brookville, N.Y.
