Nashua, NH - The men's and women's cross country squads competed in the Riverhawk Invitational at the course that will be the site of the NCAA East Regional Championships in November. Both teams had a very successful day with the women taking the win and the men placing second.
The women were backed by a 42 second spread between the first five runners, each of whom finished in the top-11. They posted a team score of 33 points for their second win in a row.
Elizabeth Eickelberg led the Panthers for the second straight week, earning runner up honors over the 5k course. Her time of 18:37 was just 18 seconds behind race winner Courtney Dinnan of Southern Connecticut State University and seven seconds ahead of teammate and third place finisher,
Jacqueline Kaste.
Freshman
Kristina Coiro was the third Panther across the line. She placed seventh overall in 19:13 and was followed closely by
Jennifer McNally and
Larissa Melendez who finished in 10
th and 11
th in 19:15 and 19:19 respectively.
Lindsey McLaughlin and
Sara Kulins rounded out the scoring seven with times of 20:21 and 20:36 which was good enough for 33
rd and 38
th.
The College of St. Rose was 34 points behind the Panthers while Southern Connecticut State, UMass Lowell and Merrimack rounded out the top-five teams. NYACK, Wilmington and LeMoyne were the bottom three teams in the meet.
The men also had a successful day, placing second with 57 points to just the 11
th ranked UMass Lowell Riverhawks.
Senior All-American,
Andrew Coelho made his 2012 debut and placed second, covering the 8k course in 25:41. He finished just 16 seconds behind race winner Jeff Veiga of UMass Lowell.
Fellow senior
David DeSalvo was the next Panther across the line in fourth in 26:17. Sophomore
Connor Dolan and freshman
Matthew Moody followed suit in 26:52 and 26:59 to earn top-20 finishes while
Ryan Healy and
Gregory Bader came in a second apart in 23
rd and 24
th respectively.
Brendan Abrams capped the top-seven in 27:32 which was good enough for a 32
nd place finish.
Southern Connecticut State, Wilmington, St. Rose and Le Moyne placed third through sixth in the six team field.
The team will be back in action on Friday, September 28 when they travel to Bethlehem, PA to compete in the famed Paul Short Invitational hosted by Lehigh University.
