Pleasantville, N.Y. - The Adelphi University baseball team mustered just two runs in a 15-2 setback against Pace University in a Northeast-10 Conference Southwest Division contest at Finnerty Field on Tuesday, falling victim to a complete-game effort by Setters starting pitcher Jonathan Hornung. The Panthers drop to 15-17 overall and 5-5 in the division, and Pace improves to 21-14 overall and 9-9 in the division to hold tight to the top spot in the Southwest.

Despite taking a first-inning lead on a solo homerun by Anthony Zarrella, the Panthers managed just one run the rest of the game by way of an RBI fielder's choice by Donato Signore in the fourth. Jamie Liebowitz cracked two singles and was the only Panther with multiple hits.

Jimmy Milani got tagged with the loss on the mound, allowing five runs in two innings. The Setters scored a combined 14 earned runs against the first four Adelphi pitchers, with Chris Murphy standing as the only reliever to escape unscathed in two innings of shutout baseball with three strikeouts.

For Pace, Joe Lombardi and James Pjura had two hits, a home run and three RBI each to lead the Setters offense. A trio of Pace batters had three-hit games to round out a lineup that collected 19 hits. The run support proved enough and more for Hornung, who hurled a complete game and allowed two runs on seven hits. Adelphi batters struck out just three times against Hornung, but Pace's starter kept the ball on the infield and coaxed 14 grounds in the nine-inning effort.

Pace answered Zarrella's first inning bomb with a three-spot in the bottom of the frame, then plated 12 runners between the third and sixth innings to take a sizeable 15-2 lead. Despite Murphy's efforts that silenced the Setters' bats late in the game, the Panthers struggled to muster a comeback and managed just three baserunners past the fifth inning.

The Panthers return to action on Thursday when they head to Dominican College for a non-conference game at 3 p.m.
