Garden City, N.Y. – Earlier tonight, the Adelphi men's basketball team took on the Chargers of the University of New Haven in a Northeast-10 conference contest at the Center for Recreation and Sports. In a game where the Panthers only trailed for less than three minutes in the opening half, Adelphi built up a lead and would never relinquish it, beating the Chargers by a score of 62-54. With the victory, the Brown and Gold improve to 2-3 and even their NE-10 record at 1-1 while New Haven drops to 1-3 and 0-2 in the conference.

Adelphi was led by Bradley Simpson, who scored 13 points and Chris Ranglin, who added 12; Duane Morgan and Nayquann Mitchell both added eight points, while Mitchell led the team with five rebounds.

The early action featured back-and-forth scoring until the hosts used a 6-0 run, on the strength of a triple from Morgan and a three point play from Sullivan to lead 17-11. Both teams would trade points until the Panthers got out to their largest lead of the half, 26-18 at the five minute mark, behind yet another three ball from Simpson and a jumper from Mitchell.

The Chargers would pull within two points twice at 26-24 and 28-26, but a pair of free throws from Simpson and a jumper from Morgan in the final minute would give the Panthers a 32-26 lead at halftime.

New Haven used an 8-2 run over the first six minutes of the second half to knot the action at 34-34; the Chargers took a brief lead at 37-36 but a dunk from Mitchell ticked the score back in the Panthers' favor at 38-37. A 7-2 run capped with a three-pointer from Ranglin brought the Brown and Gold's lead back to six at 45-39 with less than nine minutes remaining.

The Chargers responded with a 9-5 burst of their own to cut the deficit to one with under three minutes remaining. Ranglin converted on a three point play to give the Panthers a 54-50 lead which would be large enough to hold off the Chargers for the remainder of the game.

A bucket from Simpson extended the hosts' lead to 56-51 with 1:30 remaining and the Panthers' defense kept New Haven at bay. A pair of free throws by Sullivan and late buckets by Calarco and Mitchell put the game on ice for the Panthers, who came away with a 62-54 victory.

The Panthers will return to action on Wednesday, November 28th when they travel to Albany to take on the College of Saint Rose Golden Knights. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
