Box Score

Bridgeport, CT – Earlier this afternoon, the men's basketball season kicked of their 2012-13 campaign at the Bridgeport Tournament against Bridgeport University. The Panthers go off to a slow start, trailing by nine at the half and were not able to close the gap over the final 20 minutes, ultimately falling by a score of 76-66. With the loss, Adelphi drops to 0-1 while the Purple Knights move to 1-0.

John Calarco led the way for Adelphi, scoring 18 points and grabbing six boards of the bench while senior Bradley Simpson totaled 14 points. Chris Ranglin chipped in with nine points and five boards while freshman Ryan DeNicola pulled down eight misses for a team high.

Darian David poured in a game high 26 points for the Purple Knights while teammates Dion Waiters and Ognjen Zoric chipped in with 12 and 10 respectively.

David capitalized on a game opening turnover by Adelphi to knock down a three and get the game started. Waiters followed it up with a layup while David again hit the triple to make it a quick 8-0 affair within the first two minutes.

Ranglin picked up Adephi and put them on the board with a made attempt from down town; the first three of his nine points on the evening. However, despite shooting 50 percent from the field and 44.4 percent from behind the arc, 17 costly turnovers resulted in the Panthers being down by 17 at one point. Chipping away slowly, they clawed back to within nine by the time halftime hit.

In the second, things went downhill for Adelphi as they saw the deficit increase to as much as 21 points courtesy of an opening half 16-4 run in favor of the hosts. Down by 16 at the 7:39 mark, the Brown and Gold made a furious attempt to get back in it. Ranglin converted on an and-one which was followed up by a jumper and a triple by Simpson. The run was capped by freshman Anthony Libroia to make it a 60-55 affair.

However, the Purple Knights responded with nine straight points to put a 14 point cushion between them and their counterparts with just under 2:28 left to play.

The gap proved to be too large to overcome as the Panthers eventually fell by a score of 76-66.

The Panthers return to action tomorrow, November 11th when they finish up at the Bridgeport Tournament with a game against Goldey-Beacom at 2 pm.
