Box Score
Manchester, NH - Earlier this afternoon, the men's basketball team took on the Hawks of St. Anselm in a Northeast-10 Conference contest. After falling behind by two at the half, the Panthers used a 13-0 run in the second to regain the lead. Courtesy of three players in double digit scoring, coupled with sinking 13-15 from the foul line as a team and a solid defensive effort that included holding their opponents to 31 percent from the field, Adelphi sealed the deal, 62-51. With the win, Adelphi moves to 14-5, 11-4 NE-10 while St. Anselm moves to 8-11, 6-9 NE-10.
Richard Harkins led the way with a career high 19 points on 5-8 shooting from the field, 2-4 from behind the arc and a 7-7 free throw effort.
Bradley Simpson did his part with 10 points and five boards while
Chris Ranglin also put in 10 points while grabbing six rebounds.
Cliff Brown and
Robert Johnson combine for 10 points and 11 rebounds while
John Calarco added eight points on 4-5 shooting from the field.
The first half was a slow going affair with St. Anselm finally getting on the board first after a scoreless three minutes, courtesy of a Jack Keough layup. Adelphi used a 9-0 run starting with a Calarco layup at 10:26 and spanning nearly two and a half minutes to give themselves a five point lead, their largest advantage of the half.
Duane Morgan kept the Panthers at a four point cushion on a big dunk as they approached the two minute mark. However, the Hawks efficiently made their way back to the top of the scoreboard, connecting on each of their four attempts from the field with the final bucket of the half coming off the fingers of Andre King in the final seconds to send the game into halftime with Adelphi down by a deuce, 26-24.
In the early stages of the second half, the Hawks would build a lead reaching as high as seven. With the clock showing 15:28, another Keough layup set the Panther deficit to six. However, Adelphi turned up the heat on both ends of the court, scoring 13 unanswered points over the next four and a half minutes while forcing three turnovers. In that span, Simpson was a perfect 3-3 from the field while
Travis Jordan, Harkins and Calarco all made good on their attempts as well, aiding in turning the tables from a seven point hole to a seven point lead.
The lead held steady and proved to be just enough to hold on as St. Anselm would pull within three, but would get no further. Adelphi's outstanding free throw shooting, proven by their 6-6 performance in the final four minutes of the game ultimately pulled the curtain down on the Hawks as time ran out in favor of the Panthers.
Adelphi returns to action on Tuesday, January 31 when they host the Chargers of New Haven at home at 7:30pm. Watch the game live at www.aupanthers.tv or follow the action with twitter updates by following @AUPanthers.
