Basketball Promotes "6th Man" Night On Wednesday Against Stonehill

The first 50 fans to each game will receive a "6th Man" t-shirt

Garden City, N.Y. – The men and women's basketball teams will be hosting the Skyhawks of Stonehill College this Wednesday evening, January 25 at the Center for Recreation and Sports in Northeast-10 matchups. The first 50 fans in attendance at each game will receive a free Adelphi Basketball “6th Man” t-shirt, courtesy of the Athletic Department.

Fans are enouraged to come out and support both the men's and women's basketball teams as they look to notch another tally in the win column against Stonehill. Show your Panther Pride by wearing AU apparel to the game!

Women's Preview

The women are set to tip off at 5:30 pm. The Panthers are currently 6-11, 4-9 NE-10 while the visiting Skyhawks share the same conference record, but boast an 8-9 overall.

Looking at Adelphi: The Panthers are currently on a four game skid with their last win dating back to January 7 when they beat St. Michael's, 60-58. Jessica Kitrys leads the offensive attack, averaging 14.2 points per game on 52.9 shooting from the field. Over the last two games, she is averaging 20.5 ppg and eight rebounds per game on 17-29 shooting. The Parlin, New Jersey native has scored in double digits in all but two games this season. Defensively, Sade Jackson has been a key player, helping her team in holding opponents to just 68.1 ppg. She leads the team in steals with 30 and is second in blocks with 14.

Looking at Stonehill: The Skyhawks dropped four of their last five contests with their most recent victory coming against Le Moyne, 77-56. Additionally, they are coming off of a 59-38 loss to Southern Connecticut State, marking their lowest point total of the season. Stonehill's Mary Louise Dixon and Asia Ewing are the only two players averaging double digits with 12.6 and 10.7 points per game respectively. As a team, they are averaging 62.5 ppg while giving up 64.7.

Men's Preview

The men's contest will begin at 7:30pm with the top conference spot on the line. Adelphi (13-4, 10-3 NE-10) is the first and only 10 conference win team in the league and stands atop the NE-10. Meanwhile, Stonehill (12-5, 9-4) sits in second in a three way tie with Franklin Pierce and Bentley.

Previewing the Panthers: The #9 NE-10 Preseason Coaches Poll Panthers have so far proved the naysayers wrong as they are currently in first place.

Adelphi s led by Robert Johnson, Chris Ranglin and Bradley Simpson, all of who are averaging over 10 points per game. Johnson is the conference's top free throw shooter (.859) while Simpson is shooting a cool 55.9 percent from the field while Ranglin leads the team in rebounds (85) and is the co-leader in three point field goals (25). Point guard, Richard Harkins, has also been a vital piece of the puzzle, leading the Panthers in three point field goals (25), assists (58) and steals (24). Defense has been a staple of the Panther basketball program. This year, they are holding opponents to 61.4 points per game which ranks 19th in the nation.

Previewing the Skyhawks: The Skyhawks won four of their last five contests which includes a win over American International when they held the Yellow Jackets to a season low 44 points.

Offensively, Stonehill matches the Panthers with three scorers averaging double digit; Brian Hamor (13.2), Andre Tongo (12.2) and Patrick Lee (11.9). Hamor is a 73.9 percent free throw shooter while Lee is shooting 50 percent from the field. Tongo and Adam Fazzini have made a combine 72 three pointers with Fazzini connecting on half of his tries. Additionally, their defense is arguably the best in the conference, holding opponents to 58.1 ppg, which ranks seventh in the country while their field goal percentage defense ranks 15th (39 percent).
