Volleyball Falls to Dowling in Four, 3-1

The Panthers forced Dowling to extra points in two of the four sets.

Chelsea Overholt had 14 kills and nine digs in the loss.
The Adelphi University volleyball team played host to Long Island rival Dowling College on Tuesday, September 13 in a non-conference contest. A total of seven points seperated Dowling and Adelphi after three games, but the Golden Lions held a 2-1 lead and closed the door with a 25-11 victory in game four. WIth the loss Adelphi falls to 2-3 overall, while Dowling improves to 7-2.

Offensively the Panthers were led by Chelsea Overholt, who led four players with double digit kills with 14. Samantha Rico added 12, while both Emily Dorko and Patawe Simmes collected 10 kills. Katie Bryson and Erika Loomer notched 21 assists apiece, while Bree Popham led the team with 15 digs and Alexandra Kahen added 13.

Game one was a back and forth affair that saw five ties, including a tie at 25 all courtesy of a Patawe Simms kill. However, Dowling would take advantage of back to back Adelphi miscues to secure a 27-25 game one win. The second game saw Adelphi sprint out to a 6-1 lead, but Dowling battled back, knotting the action at nine and taking a lead, 12-11. But, the Panthers rallied, outscoring the Golden Lions, 9-3 to take a 20-15 on the way to a 25-22 game two win.

The third game saw 11 ties, with niether team able to gain a foot hold. The final tie came at 24 all on a Simms kill, but Dowling again took advantage of an Adelphi error to take a 25-24 lead, before closing out the game on a Elizabeth Gorman kill, 26-24. The fourth and final game was all Dowling, as the Golden Lions marched out to a 8-2 lead on the way to a 25-11 victory to cement their 3-1 win.

Adelphi returns to action on Thursday, September 15 when they travel to Old Westbury, New York to take on former ECC rival NYIT at 7:00 pm.
