Garden City, N.Y. - Earlier tonight, the men's basketball team hosted the Golden Knights of St. Rose College in a Northeast-10 contest. After holding a 13 point lead at the half, St. Rose battled back to pull within one, but late free throws put a hault to the comeback as the Panthers took the 60-54 victory, keeping their counterparts in search of their first win. In victory, Adelphi advances to 4-1, 3-1 NE-10 while the Golden Knights hold at 0-6, 0-4 NE-10.

A balanced scoring attack on four different fronts contributed to Adelphi's win as Cliff Brown led his team with 13 points while Richard Harkins, John Calarco and Duane Morgan all chipped in with 10.

The Panthers quickly jumped out to a 9-2 lead in the first 3:07 of the game courtesy of a trio of three balls; one by Harkins and two by Brown. The seven point advantage slowly grew and turned into a 22 point lead with 5:31 left to play in the half, with Adelphi leading 32-10. However, in the final 5:11, six points by Jin Hong, two from Kareem Thomas and three from Sheldon Griffin saw the lead cut to 13 heading into halftime.

The Golden Knights exploded in the second frame with new fire in them, forcing seven Panther turnovers, going on a 14-5 run and bringing the game within two points all in the opening 7:21. At 9:39, the Golden Knight's Dominykas Milka was fouled by Robert Johnson and approached the charity stripe for a chance to tie the game. He connected on one, but missed the second attempt, bringing the Adelphi advantage to just a single point.

With 4:02 remaining, Andre Pope had a chance to tie the game at the foul line, but would only be able to steady the deficit at one. The ensuing 1:20 proved to be scoreless until back to back free throws by freshman Duane Mogan broke the silence. Brown then followed up his teammate's buckets with two of his own from the line, expanding the lead to five.

With the Golden Knights fouling, Bradley Simpson, Ranglin and Calarco were all sent to the line and helped the Panthers connect on 12 of their final 14 attempts to keep their counterparts in check. A layup by Brown with 21 seconds left seemed to put the nail in the coffin, but St. Rose did not go away easily. Two late free throws by Hong with two seconds left made it a two point game.

Harkins received the inbound, was fouled immediately and sent to the line where he made his two attempts with just a second to go and ultimately put the game away, 60-54

The Panthers  shot 43.2 percent from the field and were 16-20 from the charity stripe.

Adelphi hit's the court once again this Saturday, December 3 when they travel to Worcester, MA for a NE-10 Conference contest against the Greyhounds of Assumption College. Tip off is scheduled for a 3:30 pm start.
