West Haven, CT - The men's basketball team picked up their first Northeast-10 victory on Tuesday night with a 66-61 victory over the University of New Haven at the Charger Gymnasium. In a see-saw battle that consisted of nine lead changes, successful attempts at the free throw line late in the game allowed the Panthers to keep their opponents from turning the tables in the final minutes. With the win, Adelphi advances to 2-1, 1-0 NE-10 while UNH shares an identical record.

After sitting the first two games due to injury, senior guard, Robert Johnson, returned to the hardwood and posted a game high 24 points including a perfect 13-13 from the charity stripe. He got help from Chris Ranglin, who's nine of 13 points came from behind the arc while Richard Harkins and Bradley Simpson eached contributed with 10 points apiece.

Six lead changes highlighted the first 10:19 of the game until New Haven's Justin Exum drilled a three to give his team the lead. Down by five at the 4:38 mark, Harkin's dishes to Simpson for a layup and Duane Morgan for the and-one dunk gave the Panthers the late spark to tie the game with less than four minutes to go in the half.

With 49 seconds remaining, Johnson stole possession of the ball and added a deuce to the score, cutting the margin to two. Shortly after, Simpson picked up his second steal of the game, passed it up to Travis Jordan who set up the feed for Ranglin to knock down a trey, giving the Panthers a 36-35 advantage heading into the locker room.

With the game tied around five minutes into the second act, both sides struggled to knock in a point with UNH missing on six attempts front the field while the Panthers were unsuccessful on three tries over the ensuing 4:15. Ranglin broke the silence with a three ball to put the score at 45-48 in favor of his team.

Knotted at 53 apiece with 3:39 left to play, the Panthers turned to the three point line in an attempt to run away with the game, but were unsuccessful in three consecutive attempts. A foul by Jeremey Williams sent Harkins to the line where he connected on both shots of the double bonus.

Coming down to the wire, New Haven began fouling, hoping that the Panthers would miss from the charity stripe, but their strategy was unsuccessful. Harkins sunk two more while Johnson made all six of his attempts to put the game out of reach.

While Adelphi struggled from the field, only shooting 34.5 percent, they connected on 20-21 free throw attempts and pulled down 29 total rebounds as a team.

The Panthers return to the court on Sunday, November 27 when they host the Yellow Jackets of American International College at 3:30. You can watch the game live at www.aupanthers.tv
