Garden City, N.Y. – The men's soccer team hosted the Lions of Columbia University in their final home game of the 2011 season. The Panthers were down 1-0 at the half and came back to tie the game, but the Lions pushed past with a second goal in the 77th minute, putting the game out of reach. With the loss, the Panthers drop to 6-9-1, 3-0 ASC while the Lions move to 7-7-1.

Adelphi's offense came out a little sluggish, only getting off two shots while their defense was kept on their toes for a good portion of the opening act. However, it was the Lions that struck first in the 24th minute. Nicholas Scott gained possession of the ball and dribbled toward the left side where he found an opening and sent a pass to teammate Henning Sauerbier for a one-timer that caught the back of the net for the game's first goal.

The Panthers showed some offensive spark after halftime when senior Greg Mallia entered the game, giving fire to his team. He played a ball over the top and was chased down by Issa Tall who made a great move between two defenders and chipped the ball toward the right side past Alexander Aurrichio to level the playing field at one a piece.

The tie lasted just over 16 minutes until Columbia set them back once again. In the 77th minute, Nick Scott set up for a corner with Ronnie Shaban capitalizing on the opportunity with a successful header for his second goal of the season and the eventual game winner.

Adelphi was outshot 11-6 and had a 4-2 corner disadvantage. Keeper Christopher Herrera made five saves on the night.

The Panthers return to action on Monday, November 7 when they take on the Highlanders of NJIT in their final contest of the regular season. The Atlantic Soccer Conference game will begin at 7pm.
