Garden City, N.Y. – Head coach Chris Megaloudis and the Adelphi men's soccer team returned to Motamed Field on Wednesday night to take on Mercy.

Series History:

• Adelphi (0-2-1, 0-0-0 NE10) is now 2-2-3 against the Mavericks since 2014. The last matchup was a 3-0 Panther victory on Sept. 10, 2025. Matthew Murphy scored the first goal of the game in the 15th minute.

Highlights:

• Andrea Farinella earned his first clean sheet of the season, making five saves.
• Sam Wraith recorded a team-high three shots.
• Chris Simonian made his first career start in the match.

How It Happened:

• Adelphi held an offensive edge early, tallying the first two shots of the game and earning two corner kicks.
• Mercy responded with two shots of its own just minutes later, but both sailed wide.
• Cristian Escobar had the best chance of the first half, but, like the rest of Adelphi's shots in the opening period, the ball sailed out of play.
• Farinella made a save in the final seconds of the first half, and the game went into the break tied 0-0.
• In the 68th minute, Matthew Murphy drew a foul in the box that resulted in an Adelphi penalty kick. Unfortunately for the Panthers, Enrico Cesarini Sforza was stopped by the keeper, and the game stayed scoreless.
• Just two minutes later, the Mavericks were awarded a penalty of their own after a handball in the box. Farinella dove left, and the shot sailed over the bar, giving Adelphi new life.
• In the 81st minute, Mercy threatened with a free kick just outside the box, but Farinella made a sprawling save. The rebound bounced right back out to Mercy for another good chance, but once again, Farinella made the save.
• Seven minutes later, after some back-and-forth chances, Adelphi had a great chance at a late lead, but Mercy's backline stood tall, blocking Cesarini Sforza's shot attempt.
• Mercy charged downfield late but to no avail, and the game ended in a scoreless draw.

• The Adelphi men's soccer team will be back on the pitch Saturday at 1 p.m. when it hosts Monroe for its fourth straight home game.
