Garden City, N.Y. – Under first-year head coach Chris Megaloudis, the Adelphi men's soccer team began its 2026 season at home against regional foe Wilmington (Del.).

Series History:

• Adelphi (0-1, 0-0 NE10) falls to 3-4-1 against the Wildcats since 2015. The last matchup was a 1-1 draw in the 2025 season opener, when current assistant coach Lucas Nicolaou scored the Panthers' lone goal.

Highlights:

• Andrea Farinella made a career-high eight saves.
• Enrico Cesarini Sforza, Edoardo Aramini, Finn Turner, Louis Pelo, Maximilian Mann, Sam Wraith, Owen Meisonnave and Cristian Escobar all made their debuts for the Panthers.

How It Happened:

• Farinella made an acrobatic save in the 12th minute, keeping the game even at 0-0.
• The Wildcats kept the ball in Adelphi's end for the majority of the period, but Farinella did not allow Wilmington to put the ball past him until the 35th minute.
• Wilmington's Sam Harrison made an athletic play to keep the ball in his own offensive half. Sprinting down the end line, he crossed the ball into the box, where it found the foot of an Adelphi defender and deflected in for an own goal, giving the Wildcats a 1-0 lead.
• The Panthers threatened late in the first half with a great chance from Wraith, but Wilmington's goalkeeper made a sprawling save to preserve the road team's lead.
• Wilmington got off to a hot start in the second half, and after a pair of great passes led to an open look at goal, the Wildcats extended their lead to 2-0 just 13 minutes in.
• Adelphi continued to push forward on the attack, led by Escobar and Wraith, but even with decent looks, the Panthers could not find the back of the net.
• Although it had seven shots in the final 15 minutes of the match, Adelphi could not find twine as it fell, 2-0, in its season opener.
