Louis Kelly opened the 2011 edition of the Northeast-10 Championship with a two under round of 70 and never looked back, cruising to a five stroke victory at the Cyprian Keyes Golf Club in Boylston, Massachusetts on Monday, October 3. Kelly's performance helped the Panthers to a third place finish, snapping Adelphi's NE-10 Championship win streak at two.
Bentley University took home first place honors with a team score of 609, followed by Franklin Pierce at 615 and Adelphi just two shots back at 617. UMass-Lowell and St. Rose round out the top five with scores of 631 and 635.
Kelly posted the lowest round of the championship on Sunday with a two under par 70 and came back with a three over 75 on Monday to claim a five shot victory over Richie Powers and Harry Kirkpatrick of Bentley and Nicholas Maccario of St. Anselm, 145-150. For his efforts Kelly was named an All- Northeast-10 First-Team selection and was honored as the Northeast-10 Golfer and Rookie of the Year, the first Panther to earn either distinction.
Fellow freshman Frank Amizicia was Adelphi's second finisher, rebounding from a tough round with to shoot two over par 74 on Monday, posting a score of 157 to finish in a tie for 16th. Senior
Stuart Pulkinen also improved on day two, shooting 79 to finish 36th overall with a score of 163 (84-79). Junior Chris Lyons rounded out Adelphi's scoring four, placing 41st with a two-day total of 165 (86-79).
The Panthers will return to action on Sunday, October 9 when they travel to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to compete in the Philadelphia University Invitational.
