Men's Soccer to Take on Clemson on Friday Night

This is the second Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) opponent the Panthers will face this year.

Clemson, SC – The Panthers will take on the Tigers of Clemson University on Friday night at Riggs Field in front of a Family Weekend/Homecoming crowd of a projected 5,000 plus onlookers. Adelphi (6-6-1, 3-0 ASC) have expanded their horizons this year, toughening up their schedule to include games against Rutgers, Binghamton, #3 Maryland and now Clemson (4-8, 2-4 ACC).

The Panther Attack
After a slow start, Head Coach Carlo Acquista and his team have picked up momentum as the season progressed, winning six of their last ten games including their most recent 1-0 victory over the Bison of Bucknell University. The large Homecoming crowd should not be much of a distraction for the squad as they faced the same situation at Binghamton and silenced the fans, stealing a 2-1 win in the final minutes courtesy of Mauricio Mora's game winning goal in front of 2,200 fans.

Forward Brandon Stoneham has emerged as a key frontman as of late, leading the team in assists (three), points (seven) and tied in goals with two. Teammates Omar Edwards, Mora, James Diana and Greg Mallia have provided much of the attack, each earning two goals on the year. With scoring options coming from 10 different players, the Panthers have slew of outlets all around the field, proving to be versatile and dangerous at any point.

The Tiger Tablet
Clemson has struggled on the year, picking up wins against South Carolina, NC State, Gardner-Webb and an upset victory over #14 Boston College. Out of their last five games, the Tigers dropped four of them, making them vulnerable. On paper, they prove to be quite similar to Adelphi;

Clemson Adelphi
Goals 15 15
Goals Against 22 17
Scoring Avg. 1.25 1.15
Shots on Goal 40 62
Corners 53 50

The majority of damage done comes from three different players; Bryniar Benediktsson leads the Tigers with five goals in nine games while Austin Savage and Amadou Dia have a combine seven. Not to be misguided, while the Tigers have taken a significantly less number of shots on goal, they hit on their target more times than their opponents. On the defensive end, they have let up 1.83 goals/game which should give the Panther's offense a boost heading into the game.

Last Time Out
In 1990, Adelphi traveled to South Carolina to take on the Tigers at Riggs Field with the 4-1 decision in favor of Clemson, who leads the all-time series, 1-0.
