Garden City, N.Y. - The men's and women's swimming and diving team hosted the setters of Pace University on Thursday night, January 12 at the Center for Recreation and Sports. The women had one individual and one relay take top honors in the 57-38 loss as they move their record to 6-2 while the men topped the Setters in every event beating them 57-24 to advance to 7-1.
Brittany Stanford had a handful of solid performances on the night and was the only individual winner for the women, topping the four swimmer field in the 100 yard breaststroke in a time of 1:14.61 and beating her nearest competitor by over six seconds. She also placed second in a tight 200 yard IM, finishing the race in 2:23.54, just .02 out of first.
Freshman
Gabrielle Terzano notched a pair of second place finishes with times of 1:06.67 in the 100 yard butterfly and 5:49.47 in the 500 yard freestyle. The quartet of
Amanda Steinfeld,
Jessica Ras,
Rachel Garry and
Jaclyn Dodenhoff combine to out-swim the Setters 1:49.78 to 1:52.12 in the 200 yard freestyle relay to earn five points.
For the men,
Zachary Terzano,
Corey McKee and
Steven Gromling all posted top times in their two respective two events. Terzano placed first in the 200 yard freestyle in 1:50.07 and in the 100 yard freestyle in 49.48. McKee separated himself from the field in the 100 yard butterfly with a time of 58.39 and in the 100 yard backstroke, stopping the clock in 1:01.85.
Gromling also posted the fastest times in his two events. He posted a time of 23.07 in the 50 yard freestyle and then came back to earn the fastest clocking in the 100 yard breaststroke with a 1:02.82 effort.
Michael Mayer joined the trio to earn first in the 200 yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:39.91 while
Carlos Ballon,
Karim Harris,
Anthony Passarella and
Kevin Rohle swam a 1:54.65 in the 200 yard medley relay.
The Panthers dive back into action on Tuesday, January 17 when they head to Staten Island, N.Y. for a dual meet against the Dolphins of the College of Staten Island. The meet is set to begin at 6:30 pm.
