North Attleboro, Mass. - Adelphi University's Lana Mignon De Wet and Julia Smith were each recognized for their recent outstanding play by the Northeast 10 Conference office, announced on Monday.Â
De Wet was named Player of the Week and Smith earned Rookie of the Week honors, respectively.
De Wet powered the Panthers to a perfect 3-0 week, totaling 14 points on five goals and four assists as Adelphi outscored its opponents by a combined 27-0. De Wet recorded at least two points in all three victories, opening the stretch with three goals and one assist for seven points in a 9-0 victory over St. Thomas Aquinas.
She followed with two goals and four points in a 10-0 win at Molloy, reaching the 100-career-point milestone in the process. De Wet capped the week with another strong performance in Adelphi's conference opener against Saint Michael's, contributing a goal while helping the Panthers limit the opposition to just one shot on goal in an 8-0 shutout victory. Her two-way production helped extend the Panthers' winning streak to six games, including three consecutive shutouts.
De Wet enters Tuesday's contest just three goals shy of the program's all-time career goals record.
Smith continued her impressive freshman campaign during Adelphi's perfect week, totaling six points on two goals and two assists. Smith found the back of the cage in Adelphi's 9-0 victory over St. Thomas Aquinas before adding an assist in the Panthers' 10-0 win at Molloy.
The freshman capped the week with a three-point performance against Saint Michael's, recording a goal and an assist in the 8-0 win. Smith assisted on the game's opening goal before scoring herself just 45 seconds later, helping the Panthers jump out to an early 2-0 advantage. Her goal marked her fourth of the season.
De Wet, Smith and the Panthers return to action on Tuesday, Oct. 6, when they travel to the campus of Assumption University for their second conference tilt of the season, with game time set for 7:00 p.m.
