White Plains, N.Y. — The Met Basketball Writers Association has announced its All-Met Division II awards for the 2024-25 season and the Adelphi basketball teams were well represented.
Men's basketball head coach Dave Duke was named the Division II coach of the year, being third Adelphi coach to earn the honor after Jim Ferry and James Cosgrove.
Duke set career-highs of 26 regular season wins and 17 Northeast-10 wins while guiding the Panthers to their first NCAA Tournament appearance since the 2011-12 season.
The Cats garnered two first team All-Met selections in Dayshaun Walton and Andres Fulgencio.
Walton, who picked up accolades from the NE10, NABC and D2CCA, was the team's primary assist man with 101 and the team's leading rebounder, averaging 5.2 boards per game. He was second on the team in scoring (13.6 ppg) and second in the entire conference from the free throw line, shooting 89.2% which is Adelphi's sixth best single season mark all-time.
Fulgencio, a first team NE10 selection, was the leading scorer for the 'Cats, averaging 14.2 points per game as well as being one of the best defenders on the team, tallying a team-high 43 steals. The senior guard was a top three-point shooter in the conference, shooting at a 39.6% clip from beyond the arc.
For the women's team, Kaitlyn O'Connell earned second team All-Met honors after a historic season.
The senior broke both the Adelphi single-game and single season three-point records while being the team's leading scorer, averaging 12.3 points per game.
O'Connell was top 10 in the NE10 in scoring, top five in three-point percentage and led the conference in three-point field goals per game. The Essex, Mass. native also put together a career-high 30 point game in a win over Southern New Hampshire.
The four All-Met selections will attend the 92nd MBWA All-Met Haggerty Awards. The ceremony is scheduled for Thursday, April 24 at the Sleepy Hollow Hotel & Conference Center in Tarrytown, N.Y.
