Rochester, N.Y. - With over a month until the 2024 NCAA Cross Country East Region meet, the Adelphi University cross country programs got a preview of the course as they raced at the Harry F. Anderson Invitational, hosted by Roberts Wesleyan University.
Surrounded by a sea of red from Cornell harriers, cross country graduate student
Katherine Marsh placed third in a field of over 250 athletes - and was one of two Division II competitors to place in the top-15. Her time of 17:45.2 marks a new personal best for the All-Region honoree, helping lead the female team to a seventh place showing.
Next to cross for the Cats was
Lucia Kutner, who appeared in the top-25 - at 23rd - in a time of 18:52.6 which is 25 seconds better than her fastest time for a new PR in the 5K event. Rounding out the top three was
Maya Suarez at 55th in a time of 19:53.1 and a new personal record. Dropping over a minute from her other two times this season,
Sumaira Mayan clocked in at 20:28.7 for a new season best finish.
On the men's side,
Jake Orfano once again led the pack with his time of 26:18.0, which was good enough to land in the top-50. Chris Leonard and
Diego Llanos challenged each other down the stretch to finish 0.02 seconds apart, for 83rd and 84th, respectively.
Overall, the men's team finished 11th overall and fifth as a Division II program, behind Wilmington, Franklin Pierce, Indiana (Pa.) and host Roberts Wesleyan.
The team will take next week to gear up for a trip to Queens, North Carolina to compete at Queens University of Charlotte on October 11.
